Adventis upsets market with profit warning

Adventis Group, the AIM listed marketing company that specialises in a limited number of niche market segments, warned today that profits for the current year are expected to fall short of market expectations by about 50%.  Worse still, that shortfall is before any exceptional charges that may arise from items like redundancies or asset write-downs.

Share price recovery exposes the weak

A year ago the stock market was at its lowest point for many years.   Not surprisingly, shares in marketing services companies had fallen even more sharply than most others, as investors worried about the sector’s particular vulnerabilities.  Recessions are always expected to hit marketing agencies more severely than most other type of business and the relatively small size of most marketing companies is perceived as an additional investment risk.

Portfolio of specialisms helps Adventis fight recession

Focussing on market niches appears to have helped Adventis Group withstand the worst ravages of recession despite one one of those niches being in property.

Profits earned for shareholders in 2009, reported last week, were down by 32% at £819,000 while revenues fell by only 12%.  Turnover fell by 25.7% – after the company corrected the figures it published initially when this blogger discovered they didn’t add up.

Adventis Group’s optimistic noises precede modest acquisition

Adventis Group, the AIM listed marketing group that focuses on industry niches, has augmented an upbeat trading statement with the low-risk purchase of the technology sales and marketing consultancy bChannels.

bChannels specialises in building business to business customer relationships and sales for its clients.  It was founded in 2006 and its track record is short, but Adventis says that the company made an audited pre-tax profit of £435,000 in 2009 on turnover of almost £2.6  million – a profit margin of nearly 17%.
