Go East, Young Man!

Two news items last week focussed on the attraction to UK marketing companies of expanding in Australia and the Far East.

First the midget Asia Digital (founded in the UK as Deal Group Media) completed the sale of a business it had only recently developed in Australia.  Then the giant Aegis Group gained approval for the acquisition of the listed Australian marketing company Mitchell Communication Group.

Asia Digital’s cash shortage prompts sale of Australian business

Asia Digital seems to have found a way to make good its £2 million working capital deficiency (see Asia Digital’s Far Eastern promise may be delivered) by selling its largest remaining asset – its Australian subsidiary.

Asia Digital’s far eastern promise just may be delivered

Asia Digital, the AIM listed far eastern digital media sales agency, seems to have achieved break even at last.  In the six months ended 30 June, revenues grew by 60% while operating costs were kept virtually unchanged from the same period last year.

Asia Digital says it has acquired “essential” technology from DGM administrators

Asia Digital, the AIM listed digital advertising company with operations in the Far East  and Australasia, announced today that it has acquired the technology “essential” for its performance advertising business from the administrators of its failed UK affiliate Deal Group Media (UK) (see Deal Group Media’s pending administration in Asia Digital trading update).

Deal Group Media’s pending administration ignored in Asia Digital trading update

The imminent appointment of administrators at Deal Group Media (UK), the digital advertising sales business that is 49% owned by AIM listed Asia Digital, passed without mention when Asia Digital put out its positive trading update on 15 July (see Asia Digital hoping for a half-year profit). ”We look forward to the future with confidence”, said chief executive Adrian Moss who had founded the ailing Deal Group Media business in 1999.

Asia Digital hoping for a half-year profit

Asia Digital, the AIM listed digital media agency formerly known as Deal Group Media, appears likely to achieve a near break even result for the half year to 30 June, although formal figures are not expected until September.

Big Asia Digital share sales hit price

Over 2.7 million shares in AIM listed digital media agency Asia Digital (formerly Deal Group Media) changed hand yesterday, dragging down the price to an all time low of 0.30p.

Asia Digital share price drops to all-time low

Over 1.3 million shares in digital media agency Asia Digital changed hands on AIM yesterday as the share price fell to an all-time low of 40p.  Two weeks ago the group reported a loss of £2.7 million for 2009 and a weak balance sheet, but talked optimistically about growth prospects in the Asian market (see  New year, new promise as Asia Digital loses another £2.7 million).

Every year something awful, every year more promises.   And so Asia Digital (once known as Deal Group Media) trundles along with a shortage of profits, a shortage of working capital and a shortage of shareholders’ funds.
